Giving

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

- Matthew 6:21

Why we give.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."  -James 1:17 (NIV)

We value cultivating a generous culture in our giving because God is so generous to us.
What we do with what God has given us shows the world where our hearts are at and helps us join with Jesus in his mission to make flourishing disciples who live and proclaim the gospel. We want to glorify God with every area of our lives, and that includes what we do with our finances.
We desire to be a blessing and a life-giving resource in our community with all that God gives us!
Why?
As we move toward replanting as Monrovia Community Church this Fall, we want to become a more welcoming place for children and families. We desire to make flourishing disciples of Jesus Christ from the cradle to the grave.

What are the needs we have before our launch this Fall?
-AC: Most of our children's ministry spaces do not have AC.  The few spaces that do have it need upgrades so it is adequate for the size of the room and more energy efficient.

-Family Garden Playspace: We need an enclosed welcoming space outside our Family Discipleship Center (Education Building) for young children to safely play while parents connect and experience community.  This will be called the "Family Garden."  This space will also be used for Sunday morning "Kid's Time" programs, and our children will have the opportunity to plant and watch things grow!  Our Tiny Treasures Preschool and Eureka homeschool partners will also have some garden boxes to enjoy!  This area will need a new secure fence around the perimeter and a new entrance and walkway leading to the Fireside room that is not shared with our state-licensed Preschool.  A simple play structure will be placed at one end with open grass on the other for lawn games and picnic blankets to be spread.  Garden beds, nature activities, some bench seating, umbrellas for shade, and child friendly plants will be placed around the perimeters.

-New Flooring is needed as we develop a nursery for ages 0-2 and a Kid's Time space for ages 2-5, as well as an Art Studio for K-12. The removed carpet from the Art Studio will be re-laid in the Fellowship Hall Annex, where it is badly needed due to the old carpet's mildew and wear.

-Plumbing Work: Repairs are needed so the Education Building bathrooms on the second floor can be utilized and will not leak into the Preschool below.

-Updated Paint and Aethstetic: This is needed to help create a calmer, nature-inspired, and nurturing environment for our children and families in a lower LRV range.  The LRV of most current paint colors is too bright and overstimulating, especially for children with sensory issues.  Rooms will also be decorated more simply without clutter, highlighting natural light, the worship of God, nature elements, creative play, the arts, and quality books. Gently used items and furniture will be used as much as possible.
Drinking Stations: We want to provide fresh, filtered water in a few key places around campus to help children stay hydrated.
Chairs and Tables: To ensure adequate seating in each classroom, more chairs and tables need to be purchased. Some of the wooden toddler-height tables can be raised by adding new, longer legs, but there are very few chairs.

-Basket Ball Court Updates and Sports for Youth: Updates are needed for the basketball court in the North Lot.  The wall is low between the church property and a neighbor, causing basketballs to constantly land on their private property with no way to retrieve them without asking the neighbor each time.  We want good neighbor relations as we use our campus and be a good witness!  Sports are a healthy alternative to digital screens.  More than ever, kids and youth need to get outdoors, move, and connect with friends!  We want our campus to be a great place for this!  We also hope to add portable sports equipment for our outdoor play areas, such as a Gaga ball court that can be stored when unused.

-Campus Wide: We want to eventually add tables on the patio, umbrellas, shade cloths, benches, and some traffic flow items (such as a chair lift for handicapped access to the second floor of the education building). Signage around campus and portable barriers are needed for safety and clear communication... This will all help create a welcoming environment where family needs are met.  We want parents to know their children are in a wholesome, safe, Christ-centered environment, surrounded by a loving community, so they feel at home on our campus whether it's their first or one-hundredth visit!

How much do we need?
Our goal before August is to raise $175,000. A generous donor in honor of Martha Roberts, a Children's Ministry Pastor who deeply impacted the donor's family, has already "kickstarted" our campaign with a gift of $20,000!  Martha's son, Mark Roberts, an ordained pastor who developed the Third Third of Life resources at the Fuller Depree Leadership Institute, attends our church and was very surprised and touched by this gift.  One of our Family Garden benches will be dedicated to Martha!  This is an encouraging start for a new season of discipleship for Children and Families at Monrovia Community Church!  If you would also like to give a generous gift to honor a loved one, we would be happy to find a meaningful way to memorialize their memory in the Children and Families Ministry.  Gifts of all sizes are welcome and will directly impact the young generations that grace the spaces of Monrovia Community Church for many years to come!
